With a 4-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Monday night, Mitchell Marner extended his point streak to 17 games and the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs finished off a four-game road trip with a sweep.
With six goals and 17 assists during the point streak, Marner has 23 points and has a chance to tie the club mark set by Darryl Sittler and Eddie Olczyk on Wednesday against San Jose.
For the Maple Leafs, Auston Matthews and Rasmus Sandin each had a goal and an assist. The other goal was scored by William Nylander, and Matt Murray recorded 42 saves.
During a flurry near the crease less than five minutes into the game, Seider scored his second goal. The assists were earned by Dominik Kubalik and Dylan Larkin.
Matthews scored his 11th goal to tie the game, lifting a shot from the slot past Ville Husso’s glove after Toronto had killed off the game’s first penalty. Mac Hollowell and Michael Bunting acquired assistants.
Nylander scored his 13th goal while Detroit’s David Perron was in the penalty area for high-sticking. Husso blocked Sandin’s attempt from the point, but he was able to grab the rebound and put it inside the crossbar. The second aid came from John Tavares.
In the first minute of the second period. Marner scored after skating into the slot and wristing a shot that snuck past Husso. Both Calle Jarnkrok and Mark Giordano were give credit for the assists.
At 8:37 of the period, Sandin scored on a shot from the point with. Matthews and Alexander Kerfoot providing the assists. Husso’s night was over after that when Alex Nedeljkovic was chose instead of him (12 saves).
With 7:19 left in the game, Erne redirected a point shot from Seider to score his third goal. The second helper was Ben Chiarot.
