In spring training, Jack Flaherty made his third start. He pitched 4.1 innings, giving up seven hits, two walks, two earned runs, and three strikeouts. José Abreu, the Astros’ designated hitter, homered in the fourth then delivered an RBI double in the fifth, scoring both of the earned runs.

After giving up two singles and hitting a batter in the first inning, Flaherty also gave up an unearned run. In the first frame, Willson Contreras committed a fielding error.
The bullpen for St. Louis had a productive day. Six relievers pitched 4.2 innings of scoreless relief, giving up three hits, no walks, and four strikeouts.
Brendan Donovan, who finished 2 for 3 with a double, was the offensive catalyst for the Cardinals. Chase Pinder, an outfielder in the minor leagues, also went 2 for 3. Jordan Walker, Nolan Gorman, and Contreras all recorded a hit.
The Cardinals gave the Memphis (AAA) roster spots to pitcher Connor Thomas, catcher Iván Herrera, and outfielder Moisés Gómez prior to the game on Thursday. With 33 players on the major league roster and 14 invited non-roster players, their spring training roster now stands at 47.
