With less than a second left in overtime, it seemed the Bulls would win the game, but DeMar DeRozan made three free throws to end with 33 points. Griffin, though, caught Jalen Johnson’s alley-oop pass on the sideline and won the game with a turnaround jump shot while a defender was still in the area.
Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 17 of his 28 points for Atlanta in the first half, and Trae Young made a 20-footer with 0.1 seconds remaining to give the Hawks a 121-119 lead in overtime.
After receiving the inbound ball and launching a 3-pointer in which he was fouled by Bogdanovic, DeRozan calmly swished the free throws.
Prior to Griffin’s final act of valour, DeRozan made all three of his free throw attempts.
DeRozan scored 12 points in the fourth quarter but missed a layup with 16.5 seconds left that would have given Chicago the lead by one point.
Derrick Jones Jr. made one of the two free shots he attempted, but missed the other, sending the game into overtime rather than giving the Bulls a one-point victory.
