Charlotte Hornets vs Houston Rockets Highlights 18 January 2023. HOUSTON (AP) (AP) After LaMelo Ball again hurt his left ankle on Wednesday, Terry Rozier scored 26 points to help the Charlotte Hornets defeat the struggling Houston Rockets 122-117 and end a five-game losing streak.
The Hornets, who have the poorest record in the Eastern Conference, defeated the helpless Rockets to get their first victory since January 6. Houston has dropped a season-high 12 straight games and has the NBA’s worst record; they haven’t won since December 26.
Steve Clifford, the team’s coach, now has 208 victories under his belt, making him the most successful coach in franchise history. Clifford overtook Allan Bristow, who had 207 victories, after coaching Charlotte from 2013 to 18 and then coming back this year.
Jalen Green led the Rockets in scoring with 41 points, tying a career high. With 21 seconds left, Houston had closed the gap to 119-116 thanks to his five points, which sparked an 11-3 run that was completed by a three-pointer from Eric Gordon.
Houston purposefully fouled Mason Plumlee, who converted one of his two free throw attempts. Green missed both of his shots while drawing a foul on the opposite end, giving Charlotte a 120–117 lead.
The victory was subsequently assured by two free throws made by Jalen McDaniels.
Clifford gushed about how his team remained cohesive following
It’s definitely deflating,” he remarked. “However, I was proud of the lads for sticking together and fighting valiantly. There were many plays made in the fourth quarter.
Ball’s left ankle injury is yet another setback for the Hornets, who are also without Kelly Oubre Jr., who is out recovering from hand surgery. After the game, Ball stated that he didn’t believe the injury was significant. And that he had no plans to get X-rays.
I’ll just take it day by day and see what it is. He added, adding that he could walk and do everything else.
With approximately nine minutes left in the third quarter, P.J. Washington crashed on Ball after jumping for a rebound. Ball seemed to be suffering greatly, and
